The history of making Japanese paper in Omachi can be traced back a thousand years. It is said that its manufacturing began as the Nishina Shinmei Shrine’s paper label. Matsusakiwashi has 950 years of history and is located near the Shinano Omachi Station. By using the clean water from Omachi City’s Takase River and plentiful materials, Matsusakiwashi can make high-quality Japanese paper. Matsusakiwashi also offers visitors a tour of the factory, where you can learn the process of making Japanese paper, with the master personally giving everyone a demonstration. Additionally, you can experience making your own unique Japanese paper products, such as postcards, etc. Prices start from 1000 yen and you can bring the finished products back home to use or to keep as souvenirs.
