Temperature and Clothing

The climate is cool, even in summer. At the beginning of spring and in fall it can suddenly become chilly. At these times it is advisable to bring a jacket or coat that can be easily put on or taken off as the temperature changes.
In addition to the stairs and gradients at the stations, there are also unpaved sections on the walking paths. Comfortable shoes such as sneakers that are easy to walk in are recommended.
On clear days, the sunlight is very strong, so please bring a hat and sunglasses.

This is a guide to the average temperatures and seasons at Kurobe Dam (averages taken from 2010 thru 2014). Please note that temperatures are likely to be cooler at higher locations.

For Those Traveling Across the Alpine Route

Baggage Delivery Service – “Alpine Porter Service”

Baggage Delivery Service is available prior to entering the Alpine Route. This service is available at the Shinano Omachi Station, Omachi Onsenkyo, Tateyama Station, Dentetsu Toyama Station, and some of the hotels (such as those in Omachi Onsenkyo, Toyama City, Alpine Route etc.). Deposited baggage can be picked up at a designated location. Fee varies between 1,300 and 1,800 yen per article (depending on the distance). Please check with the stations on the scheduled timing for depositing the baggage.

* If baggage weighs over 10 kg or is over 1 meter in length (such as ski gear) are brought on transportation vehicles within the Alpine Route, a person will be charged from 100 to 300 yen extra for each ride.

Operating period: mid-April (full route opening date) to November 10th
However, at the Hotel Tateyama and Midagahara Hotel, the service is available from late April to November 10th.

Pickup/Delivery Locations in Omachi

• Alps Roman-kan at Omachi Station (a souvenir shop on the right as you exit the ticket gate)
   Accepting Baggage for Delivery: 8:00 a.m. to 11:10 a.m.
   Collect Your Baggage: Same day, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (until 5:30 p.m. during November 1st thru 10th)
• The front desk of Omachi Hotels & Ryokan
   Accepting Baggage for Delivery: by 8:30 a.m.
   Collect Your Baggage: Same day, after 4:00 p.m.
