Folk Restaurant Wachigai

Wachigai is located at the shopping district in front of the station. Its building was originally the home of Mr. Guribayashi, whose rank was close to the town mayor. It has been reformed as a folk restaurant with the perfect atmosphere. The first floor is the dining area, and every dining room has its style, from Western to Japanese-style (washitsu). Dining in the washitsu will bring you back to the Meiji Era. The second floor is periodically exhibiting works of art. Most of the works are designed by the Omachi residents or the local artists. We recommend trying the Komatsuri Set and Omatsuri Gozen here. In the past, people had to pass by Omachi to deliver salt and seafoods, so it’s known as Shio no Michi. These two exclusive sets were made to welcome guests during festivals at that time. As Omachi is near mountains, they have delicious vegetables and the Shinshu salmon. The udon is also recommended. Instead of the typical, thick noodles, Wachigai makes their udons thin but chewy.
