Nyakuichioji Shrine
The main hall of Nyakuichioji Shrine serves as one of strongest reminders of the Azuchi-Momoyama period, and it is designated as an important heritage building by the Japanese government. Inside the shrine, there are the three-storey pagoda and Kannaondo, which shows how the Shinto and Buddhist religions affect each other and exist together. The most famous religious festival occurs every July, and consists of an archery troupe made up of ten young men riding horses marching through the city. This unique festival celebrates “Yabusame,” the art of horseback archery. Additionally, if you get the chance to come visit during the cherry blossom season, on the way to shrine, two lines of cherry trees make a beautiful cherry blossom tunnel.
