Kurobe Dam

Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc started building Kurobe Dam in 1956 to generate hydroelectricity. At the time, there were over ten million people participating in this mighty contruction, and it took 7 years to complete it. Because the scale of the construction was so momentous, the story of building Kurobe Dam has been adapted into dramas and movies. Kurobe Dam belongs to Chubu-Sangaku National Park, so the beautiful scenery, animals, plants are all well-protected. From the observation deck, the turquoise Kurobe Lake makes for a dreamy sight. The most anticipated event for tourists is seeing the flood discharge of the dam during summer. Kurobe Dam will discharge water during some specific periods, creating a spectacular sight. If you’re lucky, you might see a rainbow when it happens!
